A Susquehanna Valley truck stop was dedicated Tuesday to an outstanding driver.Leaders from TravelCenters of America unveiled a plaque at the travel center in Carlisle in honor of Lamar Buckwalter.He received the Citizen Driver Award, which is given to professional truckers who demonstrate safety, community service and leadership.Buckwalter, who is from Leola, Lancaster County, started riding with his dad when he was 13 months old.He’s been driving for 26 years and has gone more than four million miles accident-free.Lamar is also a volunteer firefighter, participates in the Make-A-Wish convoy and is active in his local school district.He said he loves what he does and wants to show others how important trucking is.”I’m hoping it promotes a positive image for the industry because truck drivers, for a long time, have always been looked down upon. If anything, hopefully, it entices the younger generation to maybe get involved in the industry, saying, ‘Hey, look, this is pretty cool. Maybe I could do something like that,'” he said.Buckwalter is the youngest person to ever win the Citizen Driver Award. He’s also the only Pennsylvanian to get it.
