UPDATE (3:55 p.m. on Thursday, March 7): A small amount of diesel spilled into a stream and has been contained, according to the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection.
UPDATE (2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 7): Officials are now saying that the driver of the semi-truck that crashed on Hurricane Road Thursday morning appears to be missing from the site of the accident.
According to a release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation has been unable to locate the driver, whose identity is still unknown, at the scene or any area hospitals. It is undetermined whether the truck is independently or corporately operated.
A fire official on the scene told 13 News that the Kanawha County Sheriff called the company attached to the shipment truck but were answered by a women claiming she could not speak English who then blocked their numbers. The fire chief also said there is no search party at this time.
Drivers should expect delays and closures on Hurricane Road until 8 p.m. as cleanup crews continue to work.
KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – A search through a load of lumber is underway as first responders work to find the driver of a lumber truck that rolled down a hillside.
Crews on the scene tell 13 News a truck hauling lumber tumbled 50 feet down a hillside.
The accident happened this morning on Hurricane Road in Frame.
Crews at the scene say they cannot locate the driver and fear they may be pinned underneath the cabin.
