Pune: The Nigdi police on Sunday arrested a 27-year-old man from the Ota Scheme area and are looking for his accomplice on charges of thrashing and robbing a truck driver of his cash and a cellphone, collectively worth Rs 15,000.Sub-inspector Prakash Mutnale said the truck driver (39) from Talawade stated in his complaint that he had parked under the bridge at Bhakti Shakti Chowk in Nigdi. “On Saturday night, when the victim was walking towards the truck, suspect Shabbir Sayyad and his accomplice, who were sitting inside an autorickshaw, stopped him,” the sub-inspector said.The suspects suddenly attacked the driver, causing injuries to his right eye. “The duo then snatched his cellphone and cash worth Rs 4,500 and fled,” said the sub inspector.Mutnale said that after receiving the complaint, the Nigdi police checked CCTV footage in the area and noted the registration number of the auto the duo was travelling in. He added, “The victim had provided a description of the duo. Our team took Sayyad into custody on Sunday, where he revealed the name of his accomplice. We are looking for him. We are also in the process of recovering the robbed cellphone and cash.”On Monday, Sayyad was produced before a court, which ordered his remand in police custody till April 25. tnn
