A plow truck driver in Trumbull has been credited with saving the lives of four people and multiple pets when a fire broke out at a home early Sunday.
Town Highway Maintainer 4 Shaun Bogen was on his plow route shortly before 4 a.m. when he noticed a fire inside the garage of a home on Haviland Drive, according to a statement from Fire Chief Greg Sanfanandre of the Long Hill Volunteer Fire Company. Bogen, who is also a volunteer firefighter, radioed to his base to alert them of the situation and called 911, Sanfanandre said.
Bogen then woke up everyone in the home, which included four adults and three dogs, and ensured they made it out safely before firefighters arrived.
Sanfanandre was the first on the scene and found heavy fire in the garage extending to the home, he said. The fire prompted a response from just over two dozen firefighters, according to Sanfanandre.
Using three hose lines, the fire was brought under control in less than an hour.
Mutual aid was provided by the Shelton and Monroe Fire Departments.
Sanfanandre said firefighters received assistance at the scene from Trumbull EMS and the Trumbull Police Department.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
