OREM, Utah (ABC4) — Two tow truck drivers are facing felony charges for allegedly attacking an auto shop owner with a metal pipe.
Christian Andia, 29, and Kalaninuiwahikamoku Kekawa, 39, were arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony; and disorderly conduct fighting/violent, tumultuous behavior, the Orem Police Department said.
Just after 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, Ace Auto employees contacted Orem police saying two tow truck drivers were attacking them. The caller told police the owner of the business was on the ground, bleeding from his head and back, the affidavit states.
The owner was taken to the hospital by paramedics, who confirmed serious bodily injury. Hospital officials said he may be suffering from facial and skull fractures that would require further medical procedures, the affidavit states.
During the fight, one of the tow truck drivers, identified as Andia, reportedly held the victim down and punched him. The other tow truck driver, identified as Kekawa, then struck the victim in the head with a thick metal pipe, the affidavit states. The victim became semi-conscious, and Andia started kicking him.
Andia reportedly took a video, which was later obtained by police. In the video, police said they could hear Andia yelling profanities at the victim, saying “he got what he deserved for messing with his buddy” and demanded the business pay Andia and Kekawa “in full.”
Andia and Kekawa were taken into custody and booked into the Utah County Jail.
