The Mt. Hood rest area relocation project is currently in the planning phase, with public feedback being accepted through Jan. 31.
An online survey has been made available for submitting comments and takes less than five minutes to complete, according to the project website.
This project dates back to 2021 and is led by the Oregon Department of Transportation, while Oregon Solutions, the Oregon Travel Information Council, Travel Oregon and the U.S. Forest Service are supporting partner agencies.
A new Mt. Hood rest area will better serve the traveling public, including commercial vehicles, and will address safety and capacity issues, state officials said.

Officials added that due to increased traffic and changes in use, the current Mt. Hood rest area is “no longer able to safely meet travel, work, environmental and recreational demands.”
Among the benefits touted for the new rest area are increased safety and traffic/freight capacity, a modern facility, reduced environmental impacts, more available public services and local development.
In addition to the public survey, an online open house includes information about the $230,000 project, which is being funded through the Federal Lands Access Program.
A timeline from the Oregon DOT said construction on the project is expected to begin in 2028 or 2029.
