National Truck League Insurance Solutions will rebrand to Westland Insurance on November 12, 2024.
Since its inception in 1991, National Truck League (NTL) has been a cornerstone of the Canadian trucking industry, offering specialized insurance solutions tailored to the unique needs of trucking companies, drivers, and owner-operators. With a steadfast commitment to protecting their clients’ assets and profits, NTL has built a reputation for excellence in insurance and risk mitigation.
NTL decided to sell the brokerage in early 2022 and found a natural fit with BC-based Westland Insurance Group, Canada’s leading independent insurance brokerage. This strategic move, finalized on July 1, 2022, marked the beginning of a new era for NTL, which became known as National Truck League – A Westland Company. Now, they’re fully rebranding to Westland Insurance on November 12, continuing its legacy under a new banner.
Rod Stiller, the founder of NTL, has been a proud advocate for the trucking industry throughout his career. His dedication is mirrored by his son-in-law, Brendan Lofgren, who has been with the company for over 15 years and his son, Ben Stiller, who joined a decade ago. Together, they’ve steered NTL to new heights, expanding their offerings from owner-operator WSIB-alternative benefits to comprehensive commercial insurance solutions.
“NTL getting RIBO licensed was a pivotal moment to launch our business into the next level,” says Brendan Lofgren, Senior Director of National Truck League – A Westland Company. “It was important to Rod to always listen to every word from our clients. He would take time to think about it and then develop solutions.”
Today, NTL stands out as one of the few transportation insurance brokerages in Canada to offer a full range of insurance coverages. Ben Stiller, equipped with both RIBO and A&S licenses, continues to build on his father’s legacy, fostering strong relationships within the trucking community.
“My dad is a legend in the trucking industry,” says Ben. “He has a brilliant mind and a big heart, and as an entrepreneur has created an amazing business. I’m extremely proud of NTL and the business he created.”
Reflecting on the sale to Westland, Brendan notes, “It was the right time for us to sell because it gave us the ability to create solutions and become a stronger broker for our clients. We were lucky to join Westland because they have some very established, veteran insurance brokers for the trucking industry as well.”
Ben Stiller shares his positive experience with Westland, stating, “Westland is a large company but feels pretty small. You can call anyone at the company, no matter their position, and have a very candid and personal call while at the same time talking about business, growth, and the Westland vision. They know everything going on at our office and a lot about our family personally as well, showing the true care of this company and their people.”
As the rebranding to Westland Insurance approaches, the team remains committed to delivering exceptional value and service to the Canadian transportation industry.
“Nothing will change for our clients or how they do business with us other than more efficiency and better offerings,” assured Brendan. “Our people make us who we are. We have so many amazing and talented team members who are dedicated and passionate about transportation insurance.”
Ben Stiller, who grew up attending trucking events with his dad, reflects on the transition with a mix of nostalgia and excitement. “It’s a bittersweet day as we put the legendary blue and burgundy logo to rest, but it’s an exciting new journey that we continue on with Westland.”
With a continued focus on advising and protecting the transportation industry, Westland Insurance is poised to be a top player in the Canadian marketplace, carrying forward the proud legacy of National Truck League.
