A truck driver and his retail worker wife have died in a suspected murder-suicide – as shocked neighbours reveal the couple leave behind a teenage daughter.
Zheng Hong Li, 67, and his wife Yu Zhou, aged in her 50s, were found dead at their Riverwood home, in Sydney’s southwest, on Sunday afternoon.
Police were called to the Union Street address about 2pm and discovered Mr Li’s body inside his truck, which was parked in the driveway.
His wife’s body was later found inside the house.
Neighbours say the couple had lived at the home for around a decade, but, like many residents in the street, they mainly kept to themselves apart from the occasional wave.
They were known locally by the nicknames ‘Park’ and ‘Grace’.
One family who lived several doors down described Mr Li as ‘very hardworking’ and his wife as ‘nice and softly spoken’.
‘I’m shocked. He was a very nice man,’ the neighbour said.
‘I’d see him everyday when I would walk up the street.’
The family said the couple, who are originally from China, have a daughter who is aged around 18.
Another neighbour said the couple were very nice and Ms Zhou would often wave hello when they bumped into each other.
She said she often saw her walking to and from the train station as Grace did not drive.
‘The last time I saw her was last week. She waved as she was coming home from work, ‘ the woman said.
‘She worked at a duty-free shop at the airport. The daughter recently moved out to Hurstville.
‘It is very sad.’
Detectives are investigating whether the incident was domestic-violence related, with officers seen scouring the home for evidence on Monday.
Forensic officers could be seen walking out of the home with containers, before loading them into the back of the vehicle.
St George detectives are heading the investigation and are being assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers.
