
Berhampur: Commerce and transport minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena turned into a good samaritan when he stopped on NH-16 at Haladiapadar near here to assist an injured truck driver on Sunday afternoon. Jena was on his way to his village, Golanthara, in a bike rally with his supporters, when he spotted the injured driver. He shifted the injured person to MKCG Medical College and Hospital with one of his supporters. He inquired about the victim’s admission and well-being. The injured person was identified as Arula Banshi (31) of Hyderabad. He was driving his vehicle towards Astaranga, when the accident took place, when another truck tried to overtake his vehicle.Banshi had sustained internal injuries in his abdomen and some external wounds. “The patient was in good condition after emergency treatment at night and admitted to the surgery ward,” said Suchitra Dash, principal-cum- superintendent of the medical college and hospital. He, however, left against the medical advice from the hospital on Monday morning, she said.“As a human being, we have a social responsibility to help people,” said Jena. He also urged everyone to help the injured lying unattended at the accident spot.
