A man died Thursday night after a road rage confrontation with a big rig driver on Highway 99 in Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP said that south Sacramento units responded to a report of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian around 8:02 p.m. and an investigation began. According to CHP, a 47-year-old man from Sacramento was seen by a witness driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck and weaving in multiple lanes on Business 80 from Arden Way to the E Street exit. The man driving the Dodge sideswiped a medium to large-sized tow truck carrying a car hauler, the witness told CHP.The witness said that the impact of the crash was so minor that the tow truck driver may not have noticed. Both cars continued on to southbound Highway 99. The driver of the Dodge came to a complete stop in front of the tow truck just north of 12th Avenue and got out of his vehicle, the witness told CHP. According to the witness, the driver of the Dodge confronted the other driver at his window. The tow truck driver accelerated rapidly to go around the Dodge, and ran over the Dodge driver in the process. CHP said that the witness stopped to help the man who had been run over. He was alert and conscious at the scene of the crash but died during surgery at a local hospital, according to CHP. The Dodge driver’s identity has not yet been released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office. Anyone with information about the crash is being asked to call (916) 897-5600.
