LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) – A road rage incident that started on Interstate 76 near the Ohio Turnpike ended in an arrest in Liberty.
According to a police report, a truck driver called 911 about 2:30 p.m. on March 5 and told them a man driving a Kia brandished a gun at him. He said it happened on I-76 near the turnpike and that the suspected vehicle was exiting the highway in Liberty and turning onto Belmont Avenue.
When officers pulled the driver over, he said, “I already know what this about,” the report stated.
The driver said he was cut off by two semi-trucks on the highway. He said he flipped one of them off and that the driver of one of the trucks pulled alongside him and tried to run him off the road. He said that is when he brandished the gun, the report stated.
He told police he had the gun on him and officers removed it from his waistband, the report stated. The gun was loaded with a round in the chamber, police said.
Officers discovered that the driver was not allowed to possess a gun under Ohio’s Constitutional Carry Law due to a prior domestic violence conviction, the report stated.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol took over the investigation since the incident happened on I-76 near the turnpike. The driver’s name was not reported since the case was turned over to prosecutors for consideration and online records do not show a charge yet related to this incident.
The truck driver pulled over at Mr. Fuel on Salt Springs Road and waited for police to arrive.
