HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (WEVV) — A 53-year-old Madisonville man died in an accident that happened at a truck stop on Tuesday morning, according to the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to the incident at the Pilot Travel Center in Mortons Gap on Tuesday morning.
At the scene, deputies spoke to a semi-truck driver who told them he was asleep in his parked semi around 4 a.m. when someone knocked on his door, asking him to pull his truck up so they could connect their trailer beside him.
The driver told deputies he pulled forward and sat for about 15 minutes, before checking his side mirror, the sheriff’s office said.
The trucker told deputies he didn’t see anyone in his side mirror, so he backed up to his former spot. Around 7 a.m., he said he pulled up to leave the lot.
According to the sheriff’s office, the driver said he noticed someone between the trailers when he pulled up. He said that’s when he discovered the driver of the other semi had been pinned between the trailers.
The sheriff’s office says the man that was pinned was 53-year-old Hershel A. Cobb of Madisonville, who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hopkins County Coroner.
No other details on the incident were immediately released.
