A Johnson County man is lucky to be alive after losing control of his loaded log truck and it turned over along the Fall Line Freeway.
The accident happened Tuesday afternoon about 4 p.m. along Ga. Route 540, not far from the turnoff onto the U.S. Highway 441 bypass.
Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Lee Williamson identified the injured trucker as Archer Pierce of Wrightsville.
The victim was aided at the scene by firefighters/first responders from Baldwin County Fire Rescue and personnel with Atrium Health Navicent Emergency Medical Services. He was later taken by ambulance to Atrium Health Navicent, The Medical Center in Macon.
Pierce was traveling south when his truck left the roadway and turned over onto its passenger side, Williamson told The Union-Recorder.
“The driver said he did not remember the crash, so we don’t know what caused it,” Williamson said.
The wreck was investigated by Deputy Jordan Carpenter.
Pierce was driving for an independent truck owner identified as Phillip Jones of Montrose.
An officer with the Georgia Department of Public Safety Motor Carrier Compliance Division was also called to the scene.
A citation was issued against the owner of the truck for violation of the Georgia Intrastate Motor Carrier Registration, according to MCCD -2 Officer Will Blackwell.
