N. WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — Crews from several counties battled a raging fire at two trucking companies in North Whitehall Township, Lehigh County on Monday morning.
Flames were reported shortly after 1 a.m. at 4822 Kernsville Road, just off of Route 309 in the Orefield area.
The property houses two trucking companies — Doctor Diesel and OCS Transport.
A North Whitehall fire marshal said the fire itself and the resources needed to battle the fire were “insane.”
“There’s just an insane amount of operations going on here,” said Donald Jacobs, North Whitehall Township fire marshal. “I heard them say at one point that there’s only 12 stations left in Lehigh County that hadn’t been tapped out for this call. At least for tankers and aerial apparatus. There’s just a lot.”
He said upwards of 70 firefighters have been on scene battling the flames for hours.
It took hours to get the fire under control from the outside, and conditions were too dangerous to go inside of the building.
There was a large amount of diesel fuel, tires and other related items because of the trucking companies, which share a property. That made putting out the fire difficult and dangerous, too, the fire marshal said.
Fire companies from Lehigh, Northampton, Berks and Carbon counties were on scene.
It does not appear that anyone was inside when the fire broke out and no injuries have been reported.
