RAJKOT: A truck driver allegedly crushed his estranged wife and their own 10-year-old son besides her paramour to death under his truck in Aji dam area of Rajkot city on Sunday.
Police said that they have arrested Pravin Dafda, an accused in his 30s, for the murder of his wife Parul (32), son Pradip (10) and Parul’s lover Navneet Varu (24) the same day, following a complaint lodged by Hitesh, brother of Navneet.
Assistant commissioner of police B V Jadav said that Pravin had plotted the murder because he was angry with Parul as she had left him and was living with Navneet along with son Pradip.
Explaining the sequence of events, Jadav said that on Sunday morning, Pravin called the 181 Abhayam Helpline number. He said that his wife, who had left him for her lover, was tortured by the man who beat her up every day and was also forcing her to live with him.
Police called Parul, Navneet and Pravin to Bhaktinagar police station and recorded their statements. Parul told the police that she was living with Navneet on her own volition for the past 3-4 months. After recording the statements, the trio went their own way.
However, Pravin, who is a truck driver, kept a watch for Parul and Navneet on Aji dam road. As soon as they reached the Aji dam road on their two-wheeler, Pravin rammed his truck into them. Parul, her son Pradip and her lover Navneet suffered serious injuries and were rushed to the Rajkot civil hospital.
Parul and Pradip died at the site of the accident while Navneet was taken to the hospital in a serious condition.
However, before losing consciousness, Navneet told his brother Hitesh in the hospital that Pravin had deliberately crushed the trio under his truck. Following this, Hitesh lodged a murder complaint with Aji dam police station.
Police arrested Pravin and booked him for murder and started an investigation.
