Bitterly cold air keeps Alabama in the deep freeze for the next several days with low temperatures dropping into the 5-to-10-degree range by Wednesday morning.Bad news for truck drivers in Alabama; that kind of cold means the ice and slush left on our roads from Monday night and Tuesday morning will stay frozen solid.Already our area has been plagued by several major crashes involving 18-wheelers/tractor-trailers coming into contact with ice and snow. On Tuesday, a tractor-trailer leaked fuel while jackknifed on I-65 in Gardendale.Hazmat crews responded to the scene. The Gardendale Fire Department said the leak was not substantial.Another large truck was discovered partially on its side in a ditch coming up Brindlee Mountain in Morgan County.Earlier in the day, video captured by WVTM 13’s own Sheri Falk shows the aftermath of an 18-wheeler wreck on I-459 near Liberty Parkway.Alabaster had its own issues with crashes Tuesday morning, an 18-wheeler sliding across all lanes of I-65, blocking several other large trucks from moving.Another truck driver found themselves in a similar situation Monday evening when they came to a stop across all lanes of I-22 in Marion County.For the latest roadway conditions and crash updates, click here.Stay weather awareFor the latest weather coverage for your area, click here.
