A tow truck driver has been charged following a deadly crash involving a pedestrian in south Asheville, according to Asheville Police Department.(Video above: Previous coverage)APD says after finishing their investigation along with consultation from Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office, authorities charged Bernie Chan Rogers, 26, with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to reduce speed.According to police, Rogers was arrested by the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office and is now being held at the Haywood County Detention Center under a $20,000 bond. Samantha Booth, with the Asheville Police Department, said Jason Matthew Perry, 36, came upon a collision involving a downed motorcyclist near the 1120 block of Sweeten Creek Road. She said Perry stopped and got out of his vehicle to help the motorcyclist when he and the motorcycle were struck by a tow truck traveling northbound on Sweeten Creek Road. Rogers was not injured and remained at the scene, police said. The driver of the motorcycle had minor injuries as a result of the initial collision and was not injured when Perry and the motorcycle were struck.All lanes on Sweeten Creek Road were temporarily blocked in the area as officers worked the scene.
