An investigation continues into a violent attack at a Texas trucking company.
On Monday, June 22, a suspected shooter opened fire at JAT Partner Logistics in Midland, Texas, according to local media reports.
Witnesses at the trucking company claimed the suspect was planning to set the building on fire.
An employee who confronted the suspect outside the facility was reportedly shot and killed before the shooter entered an area where employees were holding a meeting and opened fire before turning the firearm on themselves, reports said.
“Deputies responded to the 5400 block of East Highway 80 in reference to shots fired,” the Midland County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “Upon arrival, deputies discovered three deceased subjects with apparent gunshot wounds. This investigation is ongoing. However, there is no risk to the public at this time.”
The Midland County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Public Safety are leading the investigation.
KWES-TV reported that family members confirmed Jeff Waugh, a 45-year-old father of two, was among the deceased.
No other victims have been identified as of Tuesday morning, June 23.
Whether or not the suspected shooter was an employee of the trucking company or if they were one of the fatalities was not confirmed.
A motive for the shooting also remains unclear, according to law enforcement officials.
JAT Partner Logistics operates 13 power units and employs 11 drivers, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration MOTUS website.
