Eugene Bruss, age 86, loving husband and father, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, November 25, 2022. He was born near Fremont, Wisconsin on November 26, 1935 to the late Henoch and Frieda (Stecker) Bruss. Gene grew up on a dairy farm near Fremont and graduated from New London High School. He joined the Air Force, and for four years, worked as an aircraft mechanic and then as an aircraft mechanic instructor. After leaving the Air Force, he worked at Paper Converting Machine Company in Green Bay, WI as a machinist. He then went on to own and operate his own cattle trucking business for eight years. Then he returned to work as a machinist and went to night school for many years and retired from Paper Converting Machine Company as a mechanical engineer. Gene gave his all in everything he did and his job was no different. He continued his education throughout his working years and took on any challenge they offered him.
Gene married June Zimmer on November 7, 1959 and they had two children, Tammy and Kurt. They lived most of their lives in Fremont and Hortonville, Wisconsin. Through the years, he spent his time bringing up his family snowmobiling, camping, going to the cabin, traveling, working on their 80 acre hobby farm, rebuilding and building machines, remodeling and building homes, and spending time with family and friends.
The past 25 years he and June spent a number of years motor-homing and wintering in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and eventually they went to Arizona, where other family members lived and wintered. In 2014, they moved to Las Palmas Grand in Mesa, Arizona where he lived until 2022 when he moved to New London, Wisconsin where he lived when he passed away. In his retirement, among other things, he had time to do a lot of biking, hiking and wood carving, and he became very skilled at technical wood carvings.
