In two separate incidents, two drivers crashed into buildings in Fort Lauderdale and Tamarac on Monday.
A pickup truck driver had minor injuries after crashing through a business in a Tamarac strip mall about 3 p.m., said Van Schoen, a spokesperson for Tamarac Fire Rescue.
The section of the strip mall, located in the 7100 block of North University Drive, that the driver crashed into was a bakery’s warehouse, Schoen said. The driver was not taken to a hospital.
Schoen said the truck crashed through the building and into shelves of oils and cleaners, causing a “strong odor” in the area. Part of the plaza was evacuated, he said. Hazmat teams had cleared the building by about 5:30 p.m.

Shortly after 10 a.m. in Fort Lauderdale, a woman driving a Jeep crashed into a home in the 2300 block of Southwest 36th Avenue. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Garret Pingol said the woman left the road and drove through the yard, into the back of the home, which is a vacation rental.
The Jeep was fully inside the home when fire rescue arrived, Pingol said, and crews extricated her from the car. She was taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition.
The vacation home was empty at the time of the crash, Pingol said.
