A driver of a pickup involved in a serious crash with a box truck on the Massachusetts Turnpike Tuesday morning is facing several charges in connection with the crash, including driving under the influence of drugs, according to the Massachusetts State Police. The box truck driver was injured in the crash. The crash happened at about 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in the westbound lanes of the highway near Mile Marker 82. When Sky5 flew over the scene, a box truck was on its side along the guardrails that run between the travel lanes. The truck’s contents — boxes of frozen food — were scattered across the roadway. A white Ram 1500 pickup with heavy right-front damage was loaded onto a flatbed nearby.The driver of the 2016 M2106 box truck, a 34-year-old Everett man, was trapped in his truck when it flipped on its side, state police said. He was extricated and flown to a hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Ram, Nathan Miranda, 37, of Winchendon, faces charges of OUI-drugs, OUI-drugs causing serious injury, possession of a Class B narcotic and other motor vehicle offenses, state police said. Miranda is not expected to be arraigned Tuesday. About five hours after the crash, Google Maps showed westbound traffic backed up beyond the Interstate 395/290 interchange in Auburn, and eastbound traffic stalled west of the interchange with Interstate 84.MassDOT said all lanes reopened at about 5:30 p.m. after guardrail repairs were completed.
