A man was thrown from his SUV and killed Monday after colliding with a tree-trimming truck in Lancaster County, police said.
The tree-trimming truck was hauling a wood chipper and driving north on Beaver Valley Pike (Route 222) in West Lampeter Township when a southbound Honda SUV pulling a small trailer crossed over the center line, police said.
Police said the SUV crashed head-on into the tree-trimming truck around 3:45 p.m. Monday, just south of the Penn Grant Road intersection. It is unclear what caused the SUV to veer into oncoming traffic.
The SUV’s driver, a 33-year-old Holtwood man, was thrown from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The tree-trimming truck’s driver, a 22-year-old Lancaster man, was not hurt.
Police said both vehicles sustained extensive damage. The tree-trimming truck had to be righted and removed from a nearby cornfield.
The crash is still under investigation. West Lampeter Township police are asking anyone with information to call their department at 717-464-2421.
