THAT CERTAINLY NOT SLOWING HIM DOWN. GOOD MORNING, FOUR YEAR OLD ALAN FROM ASHLAND DIDN’T HAVE TO HESITATE WHEN HE WAS ASKED HOW HE WANTED TO SPEND HIS DAY. THANKS TO MAKE-A-WISH MASSACHUSETTS AND RHODE ISLAND. GOOD JOB. PERFECT. LOCKED IN ALAN, WHO HAS CYSTIC FIBROSIS, WANTED TO SUIT UP, GET HIS HANDS DIRTY AND BE A GARBAGE TRUCK DRIVER AND PICK UP TRASH. HIS PARENTS, LOLA AND LUKE, SAY ALAN HAS ALWAYS LOVED WATCHING THEIR FAMILY’S TRASH GET PICKED UP AND EVEN DRESSED AS A GARBAGE MAN FOR HALLOWEEN. IT WAS GREAT TO SEE HOW EXCITED THEY WERE TO RIDE THE TRUCK, TO ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO PICK UP THE TRASH FROM THE TRUCK, USE THE LEVERS AND DO ALL THE THINGS JUST LIKE A REAL GARBAGE TRUCK DRIVER. ALAN SPENT THE MORNING ON A TRASH ROUTE IN HIS HOMETOWN, LEARNING FROM THE PROS. HE SAID HE WAS A LITTLE TIRED WHEN HE FIRST SAW HER. I’M LIKE, WELL, TRASH MEN START VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING, SO YOU’RE GOING TO BE TIRED. YOU, FRED, THE CANNON TO HERE AND THEN IT DUMPS OUT OF THE PLACE GOES INTO THE DUMP. AN OPPORTUNITY TO NOT ONLY FULFILL A CHILD’S DREAM. TO FEEL THE LOVE AND SUPPORT FROM THIS COMMUNITY JUST COMING AROUND THE CORNER TO SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE HERE THAT MOMENT WILL DEFINITELY STICK IN MY MIND. A 4-year-old boy from Ashland, Massachusetts, diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, got to fulfill his dream of becoming a garbage truck driver for a day, thanks to Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island.When Alan was asked how he wanted to spend his day, he said he wanted to suit up, get his hands dirty, and become a garbage truck driver. “It was great to see how excited they were to ride the truck, to actually be able to pick up the trash from the truck, use the levers and do all the things just like a real garbage truck driver,” Lola, Alan’s mother, said. Alan’s parents, Lola and Luke, said their son has always been fascinated by the process of trash collection. He even dressed up as a garbage man for Halloween.Alan spent his special day on a trash route in his hometown, learning the ropes from the professionals. “He said he was a little tired when he first started, and I’m like, well, trashmen start very early in the morning, so you’re going to be tired,” Richard Birch, a Waste Management driver, said.”You flip into here, and then it dumps out of the place to the dump,” Alan said of the process.This unique experience not only fulfilled a child’s dream but also allowed Alan to feel the love and support of his community.”Just coming around the corner to see how many people were here, that moment will definitely stick in my mind,” Lola said. Alan’s day was made even more special as he was joined by his 7-year-old brother, Theo. Theo, who also has cystic fibrosis, is expected to receive a wish from Make-A-Wish in the future.
