A bread truck driver was injured after crashing into a utility pole in Hingham on the opposite side of the street in an incident where police believe the driver may have fallen asleep while driving.
The injuries weren’t life threatening, Hingham police said in an online statement.
The crash took place shortly after 3:30 a.m. near 75 Whiting St., also known as Route 53, police said. The truck had been driving east, but drifted into the westbound lane and struck the utility pole on the opposite side of the street, not attempting to slow down, police said.

The pole broke in half and landed on the truck. Police closed the road for a little over an hour while the crash site was cleaned up, police said.
A Hingham resident’s Ring camera captured the crash, and Hingham police posted the video to X, formerly known as Twitter. The photos of the truck show it was a Boston Bread Service vehicle.
The 48-year-old driver, whose name was not released, was cited for negligent operation and failing to stay within marked lanes, police said.
