Despite Bankruptcy, Indiana Trucking Company Aims for a Brighter Future
Last month, Transport Acquisitions LLC, along with three other affiliates, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Indiana.
Transport Acquisitions owns Elmer Buchta Trucking, the largest bulk hauler in Indiana. Elmer Buchta has 200 trucks and has operated in Indiana for over 80 years.
According to the bankruptcy filing, the business has between $1 million and $10 million in assets and $10 million to $50 million in liabilities. A liquidation of the business would result in all employees losing their jobs.
However, following concerns over the bankruptcy, the company CEO issued a statement.
“We want to strongly emphasize that Elmer Buchta Trucking will not be closing its doors, but rather embarking on a new chapter that will solidify our position in the industry. The decision to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy was a carefully considered move to restructure our debt, streamline our operations, and positions us for future expansion. Our core business remains strong and this step will enable us to better serve our customers, partners, and employees” Doug Prohaski Chief Executive Officer
The company is now hoping to employ 20% more staff in the future.
This will be seen as welcome news for the transportation industry in Indiana.
In August, trucking giant Yellow Corp ended operations, resulting in 30,000 employees losing their jobs, including 800 in Indiana across Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, South Bend, and Evansville.
