PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — A Starbucks in Forestville remains closed after a fatal shooting happened inside the store Wednesday afternoon.
The Prince George’s County Police Department says they responded to the store around 2 p.m. Preliminary investigation revealed an armored truck employee was inside the store in the 3400 block of Donnell Drive for business. An altercation happened between a man and the armored truck employee, then when the man went behind the counter, the armored truck employee shot and killed him.
The district manager for Starbucks tells DC News Now that 8 employees and 5 customers were inside the store when the incident happened. They were all taken in for questioning by police.
A customer that did not want to be identified said he was shaken up, and ran outside immediately after hearing the gunshots.
Many frequent customers that visit this Starbucks regularly were also shocked and left with questions when they saw heavy police presence.
“What’s going on in my neighborhood? Are we safe? Are we safe in a Starbucks where you go to get coffee? It seems like it’s always a shooting somewhere, and it’s sad,” said Robert Alleyne.
The situation is still being investigated as of Wednesday night. PGPD says they’re still trying to determine the details of the altercation. Officials could not confirm whether anyone is in custody at this moment.
The store remains closed for the rest of Wednesday.
