A 77-year-old Williams Township woman has died following a collision with a garbage truck in Palmer Township, authorities said.
The accident happened just after 3 p.m. Wednesday at Van Buren and Lower Way Roads. Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek said it involved two vehicles.
Palmer Township Police Chief Wayne Smith said it began when a garbage truck being driven by a male driver was headed north on Van Buren Road and a car was headed east on the Northwood Avenue extension. The car was being driven by Linda J. Koy.
The car failed to stop at a stop sign at Van Buren Road, entered the intersection, and collided with the garbage truck, Smith said. Investigators later determined the garbage truck driver had the right-of-way, the chief said.
Koy was injured and taken to St. Luke’s Hospital-Anderson in Bethlehem Township, where she later was pronounced dead. She died from blunt force injuries as a result of the accident and the manner was ruled accidental, Lysek said.
The garbage truck driver was not injured in the accident, Smith said.
The police department’s Crimewatch page showed Van Buren Road was closed for a lengthy period of time as law enforcement officers investigated at the scene.
