Clinton Township police are investigating a fatal crash at a trucking company that resulted in the closure of Groesbeck Highway for several hours on Wednesday.
Police said the incident happened about 11:45 a.m. when the driver of a white 2016 Ford Fusion went through a parking lot of the business and crashed into a semi-truck trailer that was parked there.
The Fusion came to a stop beneath the trailer at Bravo Logistics, a trucking company on the site of the former Rusty Nail bar on Groesbeck between 15 Mile and 16 Mile roads.
According to a news release, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not release the victim’s name, age, and residence.
The preliminary investigation shows the Fusion was traveling north on Groesbeck just past 15 Mile when it crossed left of center and drove across southbound lanes and over the curb on the west side of the street.
Investigators said the vehicle continued through the parking lot where it slammed into a trailer.
No other vehicles or people were injured, police said.
Officers closed the roadway for several hours as police conducted their investigation. They reopened Groesbeck later that afternoon.
The incident was the second fatality on Groesbeck this week.
A female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross Groesbeck Highway at Ulrich Street, north of 16 Mile on Monday night. The pedestrian, who police said may have been drinking prior to the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.
In that incident, police said the driver a 2007 Chrysler Sebring that hit the woman remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.
The Clinton Township Police Department is continuing the investigation into both incidents and requests any
witnesses to either crash or anyone having information pertinent to the crashes to contact the police department at 586-493-7935 or the front desk 586-493-7802
