Renewable hydrogen project company Countrywide Hydrogen has announced a joint co-operation agreement between ReNu Energy’s wholly owned subsidiary Countrywide Hydrogen and 7R Logistics to promote the use of green hydrogen for Tasmania, as a fuel for trucks.
7R Logistics (previously known as BLU Logistics) is a national transport company catering to some of the largest food and dairy companies in Australia.
Countrywide says it will progress development of its green hydrogen projects in Tasmania with a view to supplying certified green hydrogen to 7R Logistics for heavy vehicle road transport at a price that competes favourably with diesel.
7R Logistics intends to support Countrywide in its efforts to develop its portfolio of green hydrogen projects by working to offer a zero emissions (ZE) heavy vehicle transport alternative to customers, using fuel cell electric vehicles and purchasing green hydrogen exclusively from Countywide.
Countrywide says it is aiming to have three Tasmanian hydrogen refuelling sites strategically located near Hobart, Launceston and Burnie, allowing the State’s major transport routes to be covered by a network of refuelling stations.
Hydrogen-powered trucks can be expected to deliver similar or better performance than diesel equivalents in terms of power output, torque, payload, refuelling time, range and whole-of-life cost of operation. According to the company, hydrogen-powered trucks are planned to be available in Australia to coincide with Countrywide’s first hydrogen production in Tasmania.
The agreement signing event was held at the site of Countrywide’s green hydrogen and refuelling project at Launceston Airport, Tasmania. Participating in the event were the Managing Director of 7R Logistics, Tim Jensen, and the Executive Director of ReNu Energy, Geoffrey Drucker.
“With so many Australian companies announcing their emissions reductions targets, there is a strong appetite among them to secure freight services that offer a zero-emissions alternative,” said Jensen. “We are pleased to be partnering with Countrywide to work to offering our customers and others a critically fast-refuelling hydrogen fuel cell electric option.
The executed Agreement is a non-binding strategic framework for the parties to work collaboratively and that is intended to be converted into definitive arrangements as Countrywide’s projects progress.
“This partnership with 7R Logistics will help to promote the benefits of, and fast track the development of, green hydrogen projects in Tasmania,” said Drucker. “To help achieve this, we are calling for support where possible from the State government to help enable the transition to zero-emissions road transport.
