Walking around the upcoming Brisbane Truck Show it will become very obvious to most visitors that there’s more that just trucks to this event. There will be a plethora of components and new technology on display to whet the appetite of the trucking industry.
New Engine
Cummins has revealed it will unveil its most advanced ever big bore diesel truck engine at the show. The entirely new 15-litre platform, known as the X15D, will deliver the highest-ever outputs for a Cummins truck engine while setting new standards for fuel efficiency at ultra-low emissions levels.
“With the all-new X-series platform, Cummins is taking the internal combustion engine to a next generation level, capable of meeting future ultra-low emission standards with a low-to-zero carbon fuel capability,” said Mike Fowler, Director of On-Highway Business for Cummins Asia Pacific.
There is no set date for release of the X15D in Australia and New Zealand. An extensive field test program which started in Australia in 2021 will determine when this will occur. A key feature of the X15D is its dry weight reduction of 225kg compared with the current X15. A sculpted iron block and composite oil pan are among the weight-saving features that result in the X15D having the highest power-to-weight density in the industry.
Endurant Debut
Eaton is showcasing its latest suite of vehicle solutions and latest technology releases, including its new 18-speed AMT, Endurant XD Pro. This will be the first chance for the wider industry and Australian public to view this new 18-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).
The new AMT was recently released by the Eaton-Cummins Automated Transmission Technologies joint venture. Specifically designed and engineered for higher GCM applications, the new Endurant XD Pro is the lowest weight transmission Eaton has released for heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
Refrigerated Innovation
Carrier Transicold Australia is unveiling an array of next-generation sustainable and electric temperature-controlled transport units at the show.
Alongside the all-new Syberia eCool, Eco-Drive 30T, Xarios 6 and Vector HE 17 systems, the stand will feature Carrier Transicold’s flagship Vector eCool all-electric engineless refrigerated trailer system.
Suitable for operation with the engineless versions of Carrier Transicold’s Vector HE 19 and Vector 1550, the Vector eCool combines the company’s E-Drive all-electric technology with a new energy recovery and storage system.
This converts kinetic energy generated by the trailer axle into electricity, which is then stored in a battery pack to power the refrigeration unit. This loop creates a fully autonomous system that produces no direct carbon dioxide (CO2) or particulate emissions.
Monitoring Mass
Airtec plans to showcase its latest range of mass management products and services at the upcoming show.
As technology has advanced, the company saw a need to continue to adapt and develop its product offerings. Mass management began with its AXL200 manual gauge. With a stainless steel case and digital face, the design was well received by customers, providing reliable and accurate axle weight readings.
This has evolved to a more tailored and advanced solution. The AXM truck scale range delivers a wireless option with Bluetooth compatibility. Customers can build their own combination, adding on scales to trailers for a streamlined solution.
The units can also pair with smart devices through Airtec’s TruckOBM app. Over the past three years the company has also gained approval to deliver a compliant SmartOBM system.
Moving forward
Building on the success of its revolutionary brake shoe system, Tru-Shu is set to reveal a new range of premium trailer axles and suspensions at this year’s Brisbane Truck Show. Tru-Shu will also showcase its shoes for P-Plus and GP brakes as well as a new range of brake drums at the event.
Developed out of frustration by specialised freight carrier ASET Services, Tru-Shu eliminate the need to buy new brake shoes prematurely by stopping the expansion and warping of the brakes.
Made from Australian steel and premium linings manufactured in SA, the shoes boast an easy-fit design, with an access hole through the lining and shoe to allow quick and easy installation or removal of the return spring with a simple tool.
It’s true, there’s more that just trucks.
