A 90-year-old man has been officially recognized as the oldest truck driver and has a Guinness World Record to prove it.
Doyle Archer, from Phillipsburg in the US, hit the milestone birthday on 9 December last year and had his world record verified in February this year – putting his record-breaking age at 90 years and 50 days.
Archer began his trucking career more than 60 years ago in 1961, having previously worked as a partner in a lumber and grain company.

His career has seen him travel across North America – passing through 48 states and all five provinces in Canada; he’s driven Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles – a trip of around 2,000 miles – and has traveled through all kinds of landscapes from mountain ranges to cities.
Commenting on his lengthy career, the truck driver told Guinness World Records: “It has provided the opportunity to see many things that I wouldn’t have otherwise got to see.
“I’ve got to meet a lot of people from many different parts of the world.
“I’ve been given the opportunity to see the Kennedy Space Center and Johnson Space Center of Houston, Texas.
“Many decks and harbors of ports in many states dealing with international shipping.
“I have witnessed many sunrises and sunsets from behind the windshield.
“Deserts of the southwest, historic settlements, the bright lights of Las Vegas and the western lifestyle of the Cheyenne rodeo, the music of Nashville, Tennessee, and the great steel mills of Chicago.”
He’s spent the last two decades at Coomes Inc. in Phillipsburg in Kansas, where he recently became a ‘Million Mile Safe Driver’ after traveling one million miles without incident.
Impressive, right?
Despite being in his twilight years, Archer says he has absolutely no plans to retire and will keep on trucking for as long as he is able.
He said: “I do not plan to retire any time soon.
“As long as my health holds, I will keep driving. I do not have the word retire in my vocabulary.”
When he isn’t in his truck, Archer – who has been married to his high school sweetheart Lois for 70 years – likes to wind down watching John Wayne movies and has a keen interest in antique cars.
