Officials in Canada recently announced the opening of a truck rest area along a key trade corridor.
The truck facility will enhance safety for truck drivers and motorists while supporting Saskatchewan’s export-based economy, Canadian transportation officials said.
Construction on this facility near the Moosomin Vehicle Inspection Station began in September 2025.
“This location is a key gateway to and from Saskatchewan and plays a key role helping ensure commercial carriers meet weight, safety and regulatory standards, as the trucking industry continues supporting the economy by moving Saskatchewan goods across the country to reach markets around the world,” Saskatchewan Trucking Association Executive Director Susan Ewart said.
Truck parking, 24-hour restrooms with running water, trash and recycling receptacles and lighting are offered at this new rest area.
“The new facility near the Saskatchewan-Manitoba Border provides a safe and convenient location for commercial truck drivers to inspect their vehicles and check their loads, along with giving all drivers an opportunity to take a break,” Highways Minister Kim Gartner said. “This project and other highways work in the southeast helps sustain the province’s quality of life and supports its export-based economy to protect Saskatchewan.”
Plans to develop similar truck rest areas are underway, Saskatchewan officials said.
Those projects are anticipated to be completed on Highway 7 near the Kindersley weigh scale site and along Highway 1 between the Alberta-Saskatchewan border and Swift Current.
Construction timelines have not yet been determined, and all projects remain subject to weather.
New electronic message signs were also recently activated near Fleming and Grenfell along Highway 1 in Saskatchewan. The signs will include information about where to stop during winter storms and any highway closures.
Among other completed, current or future projects, Saskatchewan plans to invest more than $25 million in transportation infrastructure in the near term.
