A man who crashed Friday in Bay Park after suffering a medical condition was rescued by a police sergeant who, along with a tow truck driver, had his truck pulled away from a street sign pole that blocked the driver’s side door.
The man was driving his truck through the Cowley Way and Field Street intersection when he suffered an unknown medical condition at 7:30 a.m. Friday, according to OnScene TV.
The man lost control of the truck and crashed into a retaining wall, the video news service said.
A tow truck driver who saw the crash found the victim unconscious and barely breathing, according to the video service.
Sgt. Michael Rojas of the San Diego Police Department arrived at the scene and saw the man trapped in his truck. He had the tow truck driver hook up a cable to the victim’s truck and pull it away from the signpost.
Firefighters were then able to pull the man out of his truck, place him in an ambulance and rush him to a hospital.
SDPD Officer David O’Brien said he had no immediate information about the crash victim’s medical condition that caused the crash, nor his condition as a result of it.
