The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting death of a semi truck driver in Lathrop earlier this month.
On June 24, CHP’s Stockton Division announced the arrest of 29 year old Andrew Christopher Watson on homicide charges for the death of 37 year old North Carolina-based truck driver Ilkhom Shodiev.
On June 15, shortly before 1 p.m., CHP responded to a shooting on northbound I-5 in Lathrop that resulted in Shodiev losing control of his truck, traveling off the interstate, and colliding with two parked vehicles and a building in the Lathrop area.
Shodiev was found at the scene suffering from one gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
In the week following the fatal shooting, CHP used surveillance video, witness statements, and tips from the public to identify the suspect vehicle and the suspect.
On the morning on June 24, a CHP SWAT team assisted by several local police departments executed a search warrant and arrested Watson without incident.
Watson was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail.
