Here are the top three stories today in Rochester-Mason City:
- Nearby in Fillmore County a semi-truck driver was injured in a crash and transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The accident occurred Wednesday afternoon when Brian John Justin attempted to make a left onto eastbound 120th St. from Highway 63 when his truck overturned and went into a ditch. It was noted after the crash that there was no alcohol involved in the incident and that the driver did have his seatbelt on during the incident. The Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office, LeRoy Ambulance, and LeRoy Fire Department were at the scene to respond to the accident. (KROC-AM)
- Earlier this week right outside of Rochester an armored truck was pulled over on the shoulder of the highway due to an apparent money spill. On Thursday morning the truck was traveling eastbound on Highway 14 between Rochester and Byron when it was reported that money had fallen out of the truck while traveling. The truck was quickly surrounded by squad cars and an emergency pick-up truck, eastbound traffic was reduced to one lane as the incident was being handled. (kdhlradio.com)
- With the summer heating up, the homeless in Rochester have more to be aware of when sleeping outdoors as they can overheat without proper hydration throughout the night. The Landing MN as well as other shelters in the city are working overtime to provide ice-cold water and lunches to help the homeless who do not fit in the shelters make it through the night. There is an issue in Rochester when it comes to having enough beds to support the homeless, so the next best option is to support the ones who cannot stay overnight and prepare them as much as possible to fight the elements. - The city of Rochester has announced that the City Council Meeting will be taking place on Jun. 26 at 7:00 p.m. If you want more information on how to submit public opinions, the agenda for the meeting, or anything else you can visit here, the meeting will be live-streamed for those who desire to view it. - Both the Rochester Police Department and Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office are excited to celebrate Nights to Unite, also known as National Night Out later this summer on Aug. 1. Officers from both departments will visit several neighborhoods in the community to connect with members in the community and show the presence officers have in the community as well as the desire to build relationships in the community.
