Countless drivers have traveled from Georgia to West Texas.
But not many have likely done so, hauling a stolen trailer containing more than 40,000 pounds of copper tubing.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas law enforcement received information about a trailer stolen in Georgia.
Through a coordinated effort by Texas DPS personnel in West Texas, troopers located the truck and trailer at a truck stop in Big Spring, Texas.
The approximately 41,083 pounds of copper were valued at more than $300,000, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
During the investigation, Texas troopers discovered the driver of the stolen trailer, who was taken into custody, had outstanding felony warrants in Georgia.
Texas law enforcement said the owners of the trailer and copper tubing were notified and efforts are being made to return the stolen property.

“This case highlights the professionalism, teamwork, and investigative efforts of DPS personnel in recovering stolen property, apprehending wanted individuals, and combating criminal activity across state lines,” the agency said on its Facebook page.
CargoNet, a New Jersey-based cargo security firm, said in May that organized criminal groups are becoming more selective about the loads they target.
Sophisticated thefts are also on the rise.
Since the start of 2026, CargoNet has noted an increase in thieves targeting copper products, beverages, meat, apparel, automotive products, cosmetics, seafood, and high-value technology products such as cryptocurrency mining equipment, networking equipment, and enterprise server components. LL
