STROUDSBURG, Pa. – A tractor trailer fire on I-80 east severely injured one man and closed the roadway in both directions Friday evening.
According to the Stroudsburg fire company’s Facebook page, Stroudsburg and Stroud Township fire crews responded to the incident between exits 307 and 305 at approximately 7:30 p.m., and found the fully-loaded tractor trailer engulfed in flames.
The trailer was loaded with window air conditioners bound for a distribution facility.
The driver was pulled from the wreckage by Scott Buchanan of Stroudsburg who came to the driver’s aid, removing the windshield and rescuing the man just before the truck burst into flames.
Pennsylvania State Senator Rosemary Brown commented on Buchanan’s brave act on her Facebook page saying “We are surrounded by selfless, courageous, and compassionate people within our community. God bless you, Scott, and thank you for your heroism.”
The man was seriously injured and flown to a burn center by MedEvac helicopter.
Fire crews from Stroudsburg, Stroud Township, Shawnee, Pocono Township and East Stroudsburg assisted along with Tankers from Shawnee, Blue Ridge and Jackson.
According to the Facebook post, the roadway is now open, and the bridge has been inspected by engineers.
