Nashik: The driver of a container truck died in an accident in Kasara ghat when the vehicle fell on its side. The container was descending the ghat and was on its way to Mumbai from Nashik at the time of the incident. It is believed the vehicle’s brakes malfunctioned.The Highway Safety Police said the driver, identified as Ajay Mahadeo Po (43), from Waduj in Satara, died in the accident that took place at 7 am. “The driver steered the vehicle to the right side of the road, but then lost control and the vehicle fell on its side. He was caught in the mangled cabin of the truck. He died on the spot,” said the police. The driver’s body was recovered only after pulling out the container frame using cranes. The body was taken to the Kasara primary health centre where it was declared dead by the doctors, said sources in the Kasara police. A case of accidental death was registered.
