VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Vincennes-based truck driver hit a milestone that took over a decade to accomplish,
Justin Davis, who works for transportation company XPO, recently hit one million accident-free miles. He said that this was never something that was on his mind when he first got behind the wheel.
“Things like this were never the reason that I got into this business,” he said. “It was just the lifestyle that I grew up around. However, I do take pride in this accomplishment because of all the good drivers it puts me with.”
Driving runs in the family for Davis as his father and brother are both truck drivers as well. The Vincennes resident has been a driver for over 20 years and said that his time at XPO has helped him become a much better driver.
“The experiences I have had here have been pretty good,” he said. “I have learned a lot of about safety, which has made me a better driver as it has instilled the thought of safety first in all situations.”
Davis has been with the company for more than 12 years, driving routes to Nashville, Tennessee along with other areas in the region while also helping train new drivers. This milestone is very impressive when you think of how difficult and dangerous driving these trucks can be.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2022 there were over 4,500 commercial truck accidents with 118 of them being fatal.
“We’ve got a Smith system we go by; it would be great to follow it as it helps you out there to be safe,” he said. “As far as on the road, especially in weather, watch what you do, watch your distance, and always check your mirrors.”
He added that he plans to keep following these protocols and precautions to potentially reach more of these milestones down the road.
