HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — The North Carolina Department of Transportation is pursuing revoking the license of operations of a Burlington trucking school from the federal database as a commercial driver training school.
That school is CrossCountry Truck Driving Training School in Burlington which shut down two weeks ago, leaving students with incomplete training and others without completing their CDL testing.
Student said they didn’t get a notification that the school was going to close. One trucking school in High Point is stepping up to help these students.
“That’s the gratitude of the training to see them succeed,” said owner of Kinos CDL Academy Michael Randle.
With the right facility and the right trucking equipment, Randle is opening his school to help students from CrossCountry Truck Driving Training School in Burlington which shut down two weeks ago.
“I just feel that you have to give them the equal opportunity to at least try to finish their course,” Randle said.
He is offering his outdoor training facility for students to get their CDL testing. A DMV compliance officer is also offering his truck for student to use during the test at no cost.
Randle is also working with the DMV to see if he can help students complete their truck driving course.
“I’m fortunate that I can do this, and I’m not looking for anything … in return. I just want them to finish .. Somebody needs to help them because a tractor and trailer is not available like a car,” Randle said.
Randle is already getting several phone calls from students. Joseph Patterson is one of them.
He spent more than $5,000 only to be left with no way to get his license. Patterson hopes he can get the help he needs.
“I feel a lot more at ease because somebody is actually really wanting to help,” Patterson said.
As for the school in Burlington, the NCDOT already revoked their license to conduct CDL testing.
The NCDOT’s spokesperson said the school could still operate without the CDL testing.
It is still unknown as to why the owner closed the school’s doors in mid-February.
FOX8 reached out again to the owner of the Burlington trucking school Pamela Day, and she said she has no comment.
