A man was recently arrested for aggravated assault after attempting to hit a tow truck driver with his vehicle.
Officers with the Jefferson Police Department were called for the incident at the Racetrac on Hwy. 129. A tow truck driver said he had knocked on the driver’s side of an 18-wheeler cab that was parked at the store.
The driver allegedly started the truck, cut the wheels and accelerated toward the tow truck driver. The man had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit.
There were multiple witnesses and video surveillance of the incident.
Man faces slew of charges after fleeing from police
A man faces a multitude of charges after fleeing from police in the a vehicle and later on foot.
Officers with the JPD first stopped the man on Hwy. 15 for driving a vehicle with a suspended tag. He gave officers a fake name and fled the traffic stop in his vehicle. The officer ultimately discontinued the pursuit because the man was driving 81 miles-per-hour on a two-lane road with traffic. The roads were also wet.
The Georgia State Patrol later initiated a pursuit with the vehicle on Hwy. 441. A Trooper attempted a PIT maneuver (Precision Immobilization Technique), but was unsuccessful. The suspect’s vehicle ultimately got stuck and the man fled on foot.
Officers sought warrants on the man for fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer-felony; giving false name or date of birth to a law enforcement officer; driving while license is suspended; and no registration.

- damage to property on Lawrenceville St. where a vehicle caused damage to the grass at the Paradise African Methodist Episcopal Church cemetery.
- simple battery on Fairlane Dr. where a woman reported another woman shoved her while she was dropping off clothing for children.
- damage to property on Peachtree Rd. where a man fell asleep at the wheel and the vehicle ran off the road and into a ditch.
- information report on Bailey Dr. where a dog killed a cat.
- possession of a controlled substance on Academy Woods Dr. where a man was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton after having a “bad trip” while taking psilocybin mushrooms.
- terroristic threats and acts on River Mist Cir. where a man reported a client sent threatening messages after a job was not completed.
- information report on Concord Rd. where a woman lost her passport.
- speeding; reckless driving; and obstruction of law enforcement officers on I-85 where a man and woman were arrested during a traffic stop after they were stopped for driving 103 miles-per-hour in a 70-mph zone. Both were irate and belligerent. They also both resisted arrest.
- information report on Hog Mountain Rd. where a broken down tractor-trailer blocked a lane in the road.
- speeding; expired license; possession of marijuana over an ounce; possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute; possession of a controlled substance; possession of drug-related objects; and obstructing an officer on I-85 where three people were arrested during a traffic stop. Officers smelled marijuana in the vehicle and later found the substance, along with methamphetamine, Oxycodone and drug related objects.
