The Fort Worth Police Department said no charges have been filed against a shooter involved in a road rage incident that left a man dead on Wednesday morning.
Police responded to the 12400 block of South Freeway southbound service road after reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body and another man who reportedly shot the victim. The victim later died at the hospital.
Hours earlier, Fort Worth police say a truck driver was shot in the shoulder while driving along I-30 in west Fort Worth.
“This is just part of life. You’ve got to be careful and watch yourself out there on the roads,” DJ Byers told NBC 5.
Byers is warning drivers to stay on their guard: he was at work in south Fort Worth around 6:30 this morning when he saw a confrontation break out among the drivers of two vehicles along I-35W.
“It looked like road rage, possibly, because the person got out of a truck and walked to the front of the line of cars, and next thing you know, I heard a gunshot, a loud pop,” Byers said. “And then I saw someone on the ground.”
The witness told NBC 5 the man who pulled the trigger didn’t run from the scene.
“Whoever shot the guy looked like he was standing there and called police himself, it looked like,” Byers said.
Fort Worth police said the victim was shot in the upper body and later died at the hospital.
Police said this shooting was being investigated as a road rage homicide, and the confessed shooter has been cooperating with their investigation. Still, no charges have been filed as of Wednesday evening.
It wasn’t the only shooting along a Fort Worth interstate on Wednesday.
Fort Worth police said around 12:30 p.m., a truck driver was on a service road by I-30 West between Alta Mere Drive and the Ridglea area when he was shot in the shoulder, sending him to the hospital for his injuries.
No suspect has been found in that shooting.
In the wake of both of these incidents, some witnesses told NBC 5 they’re not afraid to drive in the Metroplex – but drivers need to be aware of their surroundings and avoid confrontations.
“You’ve got to be careful and just protect yourself and know that this could happen to anyone,” Byers said.
NBC 5 is working to learn the name of the man shot and killed in the suspected road rage shooting, as well as the ID of the alleged shooter and if any charges will be forthcoming.
