Firefighters are calling a man “very, very lucky” after truck driver walks away from severe wreck that caused “extreme damage” to his cab in Pennsylvania on Wednesday morning.
The accident happened on December 20th in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania near Mechanicsburg at around 12:45 a.m.
According to WGAL 8, the tractor trailer was traveling south on Interstate 81, just before the Route 11/Harrisburg Pike exit, when it veered off the road and slammed into some large trees.
The New Kingstown Fire Co. reports that “the cab was completely off the frame and facing back toward the truck. The trailer was torn open and most all of the contents were strewn through the wreckage and immediate scene.” Firefighters then found “the driver conscious, answering questions, and miraculously not trapped.”
“Crews used a little giant ladder to assist the driver up and over the truck cab, which the roof was torn off. He was packaged and secured in the stokes baskets and carried to the hard road,” the report continued. “This driver is very, very lucky based on the extreme damage from the impact of several large trees.”
Cleanup of the incident caused traffic backups for more than eight hours. The cause of the wreck and the identity of the truck driver has not been released.
