CT State Police / ContributedFRANKLIN — A Norwich man was killed Friday after the truck he was driving got tangled in low wires on Champion Road, causing a transformer to land on the cab, state police said.
Gary Pizzo, 61, of Norwich, was driving a 2020 Kenworth construction truck hauling a trash receptacle west on Champion Road at around 6:44 a.m. Friday when the vehicle got tangled in low-hanging communication cables that were running from utility pole to utility pole across the road, Connecticut State Police said in a news release.
After striking the wires, Pizzo continued driving west causing the two poles to break, with a transformer from one of the poles landing on the top of the cab of his truck, killing him, the release said.
The incident was under investigation, state police said.
