A truck driver died Thursday in what is being described as a “tragic accident” at the Riverview Land Preserve.
Those who live near the city’s landfill, located at 20863 Grange Rd., or those who drove by there during the late morning and early afternoon posted on social media that the landfill was closed and that there were numerous emergency vehicles on site.
A photo circulating on social media, which appears to be taken at the accident scene, shows a large dump truck with its cab destroyed in the accident.
Riverview city officials did not return requests for information but Police Chief John Allen issued a brief press release confirming that a truck driver was killed in his vehicle.
“The circumstances are presently under investigation and we are not prepared to make any statements at this time,” the Police Department said in the statement. “We do, however, extend our prayers and deepest sympathies to the family of the truck driver.”
