Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch, with the help of CCTV footage, has nabbed three trailer-truck drivers from Raigad and Palghar who were accused of killing a man, on Wednesday last week.The 30-year-old victim’s naked body was found with severe injuries on an open plot in Mahalunge, MIDC, on November 29.The police have identified the deceased as Amol Pawar, a resident of Latur district. As per the police, the investigation revealed that the victim was beaten with an iron rod by the three trailer-truck drivers and their accomplices. It happened after the victim tried to steal one of their trucks at KSB Chowk in Chinchwad.“Later, the three men took the victim to an open plot some 20km away from the place of the incident and disposed of the body at Mahalunge MIDC,” the police told TOI.“We have arrested trailer-truck drivers Dashrath Adsul, 21, from Kalamboli in Raigad district, Vishnu Raut, 29, and Baliram Jamdade, 35, from Boisar in Palghar district. All three have admitted to having killed Pawar,” Harish Mane, an assistant inspector at the crime branch, told TOI. “Pawar tried to steal Adsul’s truck,” he added.Earlier to the assault, the Nigdi police detained Pawar a night before his death for pelting stones in an inebriated condition. “We detained him and later set him free with a warning. Since he was drunk, one of our police personnel droopped him at Transportnagar in Nigdi,” Mane said.As per the probe, the CCTV footage showed Pawar walking towards the KSB Chowk at around 1.30am, which is some 6km from Transportnagar, and climbing into the driver’s cabin of a trailer truck. The truck was parked on one side of the road. “The truck’s key was in the ignition chamber, and the victim used it to drive the trailer away. He took a U-turn after a while, and that is when Adsul, the driver of the truck, spotted him as he crossed the same spot,” Mane added. Adsul, along with Raut and Jamdade, managed to stop the truck and start the assault in the driver’s cabin, the police officer said.

Delhi: Businessman shot at by gang that tried to flee with truck

A 29-year-old businessman, Aarshdeep, was shot by robbers while they attempted to steal his uncle’s truck in east Delhi. The incident occurred on Saturday and was reported to the police at 1.30 am. The owner of the truck, Sarabjeet Singh, informed the police that the truck was stolen from the Patparganj Industrial area. With the help of GPS installed in the truck, Singh was able to track it down in Madhu Vihar. Upon reaching the spot, the victim’s son and nephew began chasing the truck, but the robbers fired at the nephew and escaped, leaving the truck behind. The injured victim is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

3 killed as truck rams pick-up van

Three people were killed in a road accident near Salem when a truck collided with a pick-up van, crushing all three passengers to death. The deceased were identified as M Praveenkumar, 27, Sudarshan, 40, and Prakasam, 52. The truck driver, Pechimuthu, was hospitalized with severe injuries. The accident occurred when the truck, loaded with empty cool drink bottles, collided with the van. Passers-by alerted police and fire service personnel, who retrieved the bodies after an hour-long struggle. The accident caused traffic congestion on the Salem-Chennai highway for close to an hour.
