Truck driving has long been seen as a male-dominated profession, but Rosemary Mokaya, aged 55, has shattered these societal expectations and proven that anyone can excel in this field with determination.
The trailblazing Kenyan woman manages a trucking business with her husband Joseph and also drives trucks. Along her journey, she has come to understand that life’s rewards come with challenges. Growing up under the watchful eye of a single mother, Rosemary’s formative years in Kenya were marked by disciplined care. Her first job was in Kenya Prisons, which she began at the ground level. Progressing upwards with unrelenting effort, she eventually got the chance to serve the UN, only to be pulled back by PTSD. As time passed, the family was provided with the green card, bringing with it a new chapter for the couple.
While her partner transitioned into trucking, Rosemary found herself managing delivery work. However, her ambition was not trapped within limiting horizons. Rosemary saw the potential in trucking and decided to enrol herself on a trucking school, dedicating her weekends, from 7 am to 4 pm, to the haulage industry. Rosemary encountered numerous setbacks during her truck driving exams and invested a considerable sum of money into her education. Nonetheless, she remained determined and ultimately secured her license.
In November 2022, Rosemary’s husband, who had been the primary breadwinner for their family for 37 years, received a cancer diagnosis. This placed a financial burden on them, particularly in light of their recent acquisition of a house in the United States. Rosemary assumed responsibility for the household finances during her husband’s cancer treatment, ensuring they remained afloat. Fortunately, he triumphed over the illness and is now in remission, ready to resume his professional duties.
Rosemary faced immense difficulties in this phase of her life. Despite the sorrow and weeping, she discovered solace in TikTok. It was during this period that she established her own TikTok profile, which swiftly garnered a substantial following of more than 210,000 individuals. Rosemary recognizes the worldwide economic downturn that has impacted not just the United States, but also the entire globe. In contrast to Kenya, the US economic difficulties have eased as witnessed by the reduced inflation. The primary disparity lies in the presence of abundant income-generating prospects in the US, unlike in Kenya.
Rosemary highlights that to reside in the US, one must possess great courage and be prepared to forfeit personal comforts for the sake of success. She has accomplished some mighty difficult feats along the way, attributing her resilience to the divine grace of God. Rosemary expresses her aspiration to lead a life dedicated to helping others. Furthermore, she advises individuals to give tithes without harbouring any negative thoughts about how the money would be utilized. She explains that those who give with a joyful heart are blessed by God.
