A 26-year-old Colorado man hauling a hazmat load of diesel fuel died in a rollover truck crash Thursday morning in Sweetwater County, the Wyoming Highway Patrol announced.
Eduardo Castro was driving a Peterbilt combination unit west on Interstate 80 near Rock Springs, the statement said. The crash happened at milepost 106.8 at 8:18 a.m.
Castro failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, and the truck exited the road to the left and crossed through the median cable barrier, the statement said.
He attempted to correct the truck to the right.
“[H]owever, the vehicle continued into the median, overturning 1/4 time onto the passenger side,” the statement said.
The tanker trailer was breached, and a large amount of fuel spilled out into the median, the statement said.

Emergency crews worked to contain the spilled fuel.
Driver inattention and fatigue are being considered as possible causes, the statement said. The weather was rainy and overcast in the area, and the roads were wet.
He was not wearing a seatbelt when he crashed, the statement said.
Castro was the 125th person to die on Wyoming’s roads in 2023. At the same time last year, there were 119 in 2022, 103 in 2021 and 118 in 2020.
