A bicyclist is dead after a crash involving a Rumpke truck in Hamilton, according to police.It happened around 6 a.m. along Dixie Highway at Bishop Avenue. According to police, the crash involved a residential Rumpke truck and a man on a bicycle.The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The Rumpke driver called 911 to report what happened.”Somebody, I guess, was crossing the street. He had on all black, and I was turning from Route 4, and I hit him with the garbage truck,” the driver said. The Butler County START (Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team) was activated and responded to assist in the investigation. The Butler County Coroner also responded to the scene. Rumpke spokesperson Molly Yeager said the company’s safety department will also be conducting an investigation.”We’ll be recreating the incident, determining what occurred, what led to the incident and making sure that we can prevent something from this happening in the future,” Yeager said. “Our thoughts are just with everybody involved today, from the individual’s family and friends to our driver and their family and friends and just everybody who responded to the scene.”Hamilton police are asking anyone with information to call Officer Cody Rush at 513-868-5811 x 1162.
