A FedEx driver made up a story about an armed robbery and will be arrested, according to Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane.“Investigators and deputies are extremely angry and I am too,” Lane said. “They’ve done a lot of work and there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff that goes on in a case like this.”At about 11 a.m. Wednesday, the driver reported that he had been robbed by an armed man and gave a description of a suspect. He said the man crashed the FedEx truck and ran off into the woods.Gans Public School and Central Schools near Sallisaw were put on lockdown. “We locked down those schools and called in all our resources to search for this guy that supposedly in the wooded area,” Lane said. Deputies, Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Cherokee marshals set up a perimeter, Lane said. The sheriff’s department drone was also called out to help in the search.Law enforcement looked at video from the FedEx vehicle and it showed there was not a robbery, Lane said. He will be arrested on charges that include filing a false report, Lane said. “Hopefully we can come up with something more than just filing a false police report,” Lane said.
